| Q | Do you play on just one lane? |
| A | No a league match is played a game across two lanes. The way this works is that you would bowl the first frame on lane 1,
for example, then frame two will be bowled on lane 2. For frame three you go back to lane 1 and so or throughout
the game. Don't worry that you're going to get confused the overhead monitors will tell you which lane to bowl on
and should you bowl on the wrong lane ... well join the club!
|
| Q | How many games makes up a match? |
| A | 3 games, known as a series, normally
|
| Q | How do you win the league? |
| A | Point are awarded for each game that you win and
if you beat the oppositions series score (thats the sum of your three game scores). Point systems vary between
leagues Monday Late Doubles is describe later. At the end of the season the team with the most points is the winner
|
| Q | How does the Handicapping work? |
| A | To calculate your handicap we take your average
(ie the total score for all the games played divided by the number of games play) and deduct this from 200 (in
our case). Your handicap will then be 80% of this figure and this will be added to your score for each game. After each match
your handicap is then recalculated
|
| Q | How does the Monday Late Doubles points system work? |
| A | Our system is a bit more complicated than most but
is fairer and more fun. For each game that you win as a team you get two points (1 for a draw) and a further 2
points if you win the series. Then for each game that player 1 beats his or her counterpart on the other team a
further point is awarded. This is then repeated for bowler 2. Additionally each bowler earns 1,2 or 3 bonus points for bowling a
200,250 or 300 handicapped game respectively
|
| Q | What can you win? |
| A | Positional Trophies are awarded for all competing teams but
there are a number of other trophies awarded for other achievements such as bowling the highest handcapped/scratch game or series.
These awards are given down to third place and are award for male, female and team achievements. Additional awards are
given for having the highest average or being the most improved.
|
| Q | Is it worth buying your own equipment? |
| A | You don't need to initially but most bowlers
prefer to buy their own shoes for comfort reasons amongst others. Buying a bowling ball however is something that you
will want to do after you have been playing for a little while but is best not rushed into and certainly a novice should
seek the advice of other league members before they buy their first one. The advantage of owning your own ball is that
it will be drilled to the dimensions of your own hand so it fits like a glove. House Balls are drilled so that they are
suitable for both right and left handers with a small range of hole sizes. Having a well fitting ball is often described
as taking a pound of the weight of the ball and immediately adding 10 to your average.
